Rakesh Singh, BJP’s chief whip in the Lok Sabha, accused Congress leader Rahul Gandhi of unparliamentary conduct and said his action of asking MPs to observe silence in the Parliament hurt the dignity of the house.

According to news agency ANI, the BJP leader said, "Yesterday Rahul Gandhi displayed unparliamentary conduct in LS, it hurt dignity of this temple of democracy of this nation. Giving orders to maintain 2-minute silence! It’s shocking & can’t be tolerated. This is an incident that tarnishes the House."

BJP MP Sanjay Jaiswal too sought action against the Congress leader, saying for the first time, the house saw an MP ordering everyone to stand up and maintain silence, and demanded that privilege motion notice should be served to Gandhi.

After his speech in Lok Sabha on Thursday, Gandhi had said he would observe two minutes of silence for the farmers who have died at the protest sites. He and other Congress MPs stood up and observed silence.

Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla noted that the behaviour of the Congress leader was not appropriate. “If you wish to discuss something, give it to me in writing and I will allot time… but allow me to run the House,” he said.
