In the wake of Indian Air Force strike on the Jaish-e-Mohammed’s terrorist camp at Balakot in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province of Pakistan, Pakistan information ministry came out with a statement saying no Indian movie will be released in Pakistan.

"Cinema Exhibitors Association has boycotted Indian content, no Indian Movie ll be released in Pakistan. Also have instructed PEMRA to act against Made in India Advertisements. #PakistanTayarHai," a tweet from Pakistan Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry said. PEMRA stands for Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authorit, responsible for regulating and issuing channel licenses for setting up of of the media establishments.

According to the Dawn, PEMRA had, earlier in 2016, imposed a ban on airing Indian content on local TV and radio channels. The ban was later lifted in 2017 by Lahore high court. However, the ban was reinstated by the Pakistan Supreme Court in 2018.

Recently, there was a petition filed in a Lahore court seeking complete ban on trade and exhibition of Indian films in Pakistan, in reciprocation to Bollywood banning Pakistani actors and singers in the wake of the Pulwama attack that killed 40 CRPF soldiers. The All Indian Cine Workers Association announced a total ban on Pakistani actors and artists in the wake of the terror strike. The organisation had said they will take strong action against anyone who works with Pakistani artists.

After the Pulwama attack, makers of several projects including Total Dhamaal, Luka Chuppi, Arjun Patiala, had announced that they will not be releasing the films in Pakistan.
