Senior lawyer Harish Salve, who represented India at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) in the Kulbhushan Jadhav case, finally received his fee.

Hours before her demise, Sushma Swaraj, former external affairs minister, while speaking to Salve, in a banter, asked him to come and “collect his fee of Re 1” for representing India in the ICJ. On Friday, Bansuri Swaraj, daughter of Sushma Swaraj, fulfilled the promise made by her mother to Salve.

Bansuri visited Salve and handed him his fee of Re 1.

Swaraj Kaushal, husband of Sushma Swaraj, took to Twitter to share the photo of Bansuri handing over the fee to Salve. “@sushmaswaraj Bansuri has fulfilled your last wish. She called on Mr. Harish Salve and presented the One Rupee coin that you left as fees for Kulbhushan Jadhav’s case,” he tweeted.

Sharing the details of the conversation he had with Sushma Swaraj on August 6 evening, Salve had told NDTV that the former external affairs minister had asked him why he hadn’t visited her. "I said I will come and meet her today. She said you have to come because I have to pay your fees. You commented somewhere that even that one rupee has not been paid so I have to give that one rupee for Jadhav’s case," he was quoted as saying.

He said Sushma Swaraj had suffered the cardiac arrest 10 minutes after the conversation.
