Even as the Delhi assembly polls are under way, controversial BJP MP Parvesh Verma came out with another offensive statement, saying people of a particular community are shouting at Shaheen Bagh Seelampur and Jamia Millia and are promising their votes to Aam Aadmi Party.

In a video that he posted on Twitter, the BJP MP said these people are voting for the AAP as the party has been feeding them biryani for the past one month.

He claimed that these people are returning the favour to the AAP. Further, he made an appeal to the "patriotic" people of Delhi to get out, stand in long lines, show your id card and say "we will vote for the patriotic party, and say Jai Shri Ram."

He may have been reacting to a video of Muslim women in a queue and flashing their id cards.

This is not the first time that he came out with the allegation that the AAP was offering biryani for protesters in Shaheen Bagh. A few days ago, the MP had accused AAP leader Manish Sisodia sponsoring biryani and bribing the protesters. His comments had attracted the ire of Election Commission which had barred him from campaigning in Delhi.

Meanwhile, 41.5 per cent votes were cast till 3 pm in the national capital. The city recorded 14.75 per cent voter turnout in the first three hours of polling which began at 8 am. Polling is scheduled to end at 6 pm.

Women protesters at Shaheen Bagh voted in batches on so that the agitation remains unaffected.
